Osteonecrosis of the Knee in Teenage Girl

HK_Lat

This young woman presented to the osteonecrosis program at The Denver Clinic with severe knee pain. She had a previous history of osteochondritis dissecans and previous episodes of knee pain that eventually resolved with prolonged rest.  When she presented to the osteonecrosis program her knee pain had not resolved with rest, as it had before. Her MRI showed an area of osteonecrosis on her femoral condyle.

Due to the potential for the osteonecrotic area to collapse which would cause further damage to the knee joint and her alignment, it was determined that an osteochondral allograft procedure would be the treatment of choice for this active 16 year old.
