Reconstructive surgery for amputees |
The physician team at The Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk have developed techniques for improving the ability for amputees to be fit with a more functional prosthesis. The orthopedic, plastic surgery and amputee rehab specialists worked together to enable Manuel Salazar a better opportunity to be fit with an upper extremity prosthesis by using a cadaver bone from Allosource, and using it to extent the remainder of Manuel's arm. Plastic surgeons with the Denver Clinic team then were able to cover this "new arm" with a muscle flap. This medical breakthrough at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center means a man who lost all four of his limbs in a construction accident 3 years ago has hope for a better future.
