Tumors of the Extremities

One of our areas of expertise at The Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk is the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors. For that reason, many of our patients are referred after having been told that they may have a "tumor". These words often invoke fear and anxiety in our patients. We understand the fear of the "unknown" and work hard to quickly and accurately diagnose your condition so that we may proceed towards timely treatment.

The word "tumor" simply means mass. In broad terms, tumors can be either Benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Having a tumor does not necessarily mean that you have cancer. In fact, most patients referred to our practice with unusual masses have benign (non-cancerous) tumors. We can often identify the types of tumors that our patients may have based on their physical examination findings and x-ray findings. Occasionally, if it is unclear what the tumor may be based on this information, or if there is concern that the tumor could be a malignant tumor (cancerous), we will perform a biopsy in order to identify what type of tumor we are dealing with.
